Pakistan has many fabulous and stunning places in the world. As you go towards the north of Pakistan, the beautiful scenery of nature becomes more and more beautiful. This part of the country is famous worldwide because of its snow-capped mountains, flowing waterfalls, mighty rivers, beautiful lakes, lush green valleys, and far-off greenery that remind of heaven. One of the world-renowned areas for its beauty is Fairy Meadows.


Fairy Meadows

It is not itself a city, but trekkers used it to reach the summit of Nanga Parbat's Rakhiot face.

Fairy Meadows settled at the foothills of Nanga Parbat. It is reputed to be home to fairies. Furthermore, it is a story or a fact, but after seeing the beauty of Fairy Meadows with your own eyes, it is impossible to deny it.

A German mountaineer named fairy Meadows. Locally in the Shina language, it is called “Joot”. It gained fame when TV host and author Mustansar Hussain Tarar mentioned it in his book “Nanga Parbat”.


Location of Fairy Meadows

It is located in Diamer District, Gilgit- Baltistan, Pakistan. It is about 3300 meters above sea level.


How can we reach Fairy Meadows?

It is saying that every beautiful thing is difficult to achieve. So maybe you'll find this trek a little harder.

If you start your journey from Islamabad, Raikot is located at a distance of 540 km. It can only be reached by jeep. Firstly, you have to cross the Raikot bridge. There the paved road ends and then the jeep reaches Tattu village in two and a half hours.

The road from Raikot to Tutu village is said to be the most dangerous road in the world. It is also called the" Road of Death”. Because it’s a treacherous high altitude, unstable, and narrow Mountain Road. The path is roughly formed from rocks and dirt. On the right are towering mountains touching the sky, and on the left is a storm drain thousands of feet deep. On the other side of the canal, there is a chain of high mountains. At one point the dangerous peaks of Nanga Parbat are visible, and at another point, the bare peaks of Raka Poshi show their sight.

On the way to Fairy Meadows

Travel beyond Tattu village is done on foot, or you can hire a horse or mule from the village. Porters are also available to carry the goods from here.

It takes four to six hours to walk from Tattu Village to Ferry Meadows. Dense forests and flowing waterfalls are at your feet on this trek. When the trek ends with beautiful views, It goes unnoticed, and the awe-inspiring view of Nanga Parbat makes you feel like you've arrived at Ferry Meadows.

It is a lush green area surrounded by mountains. There is a forest on one side and mountains on the other side and deep ravines in front. Here you will find jabja alpine, cypress, juniper, and wild rose. This valley is mostly covered by clouds. Heading downhill towards the forest, you meet a lake. It is also called "Tarar Lake” after Mustansar Hussain Tarar. Most of the local population lives there.

Tourist season start in March and ends in October. Wooden cabins are built for tourists and camping facilities are also available. If you wish to see Nanga Parbat more closely, you can reach the base camp after a two-hour trek.


Weather conditions

The average high of Fairy Meadows is 3300 meters. Even in the summer, it is pretty cold at night and in winter, it receives heavy snowfall and becomes almost inaccessible.

At night, the sky of Fairy Meadows is covered with stars. It feels like you are surrounded by stars.


It would not be wrong to say that Fairy Meadows is the magic of magic. You get so lost in the spell of the valley's beauty that it becomes difficult to come back.
